Description: Discover the European Crochet Bruges Lace Technique that is fun to make and not difficult, though it may look scary.

 

In class, you will learn the Bruges crochet technique, the abbreviations and symbols used in crochet instructions and charts. You will also practice making 5 different samples (shapes). At the end of class you will know how to make the “Heart” Project.

 

Materials: 

  1. 6 light colored (one in red) small balls of size 10 thread or size 8 perle cotton thread
  2. Size 8 (1.5mm) or 6 (1.75mm) steel hook.

      (Fingering, sport or worsted weight yarn and appropriate size hook may be substituted).    

  1. Scissors, tape measure, pen and paper.

 

Homework:

From each ball you will crochet a tape as follows:

  • Row 1: Ch 9, dc in 6th ch from hk, dc in each of next 3 ch, turn.
  • Row 2: (tape row) Ch 5 (arch) dc in each of 4 sts., turn.

Repeat Row 2, for required number of times (see below).  Usually we do not count rows, but arches on each side of the tape.  Do not cut the thread leave a tape attached to each ball.

 

To prepare tapes:

  1. For  square/triangle: with 4 arches on each side.
  2. For an ellipse with 15 arches on each side.
  3. For a circle with  11 arches on one side, 12 arches on the other.
  4. For a wave with 11 arches on one side, 10 arches on the other
  5. For the Heart, using red color thread, work a tape with 3 arches on one side, 4 on the other.
