Happy Valentine’s Day! This is the month when people wear lots of hearts and the colors of red and white to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And so this is a great time to use up your red and white yarns. Projects can be simple or elaborate for your loved ones. Some simple ideas are: 1. A crocheted red and white scarf with heart tassels. 2. A red and white blanket, or 3. A red and white striped gift bag to hold cards and chocolates.
Square Pattern:

Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd ch from hook and each chain across. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2: Single crochet in 1st sc and each sc across. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 6: Join white yarn. Single crochet in 1st single crochet, treble crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next single crochet, treble crochet in next single crochet. Repeat from * to * to the end.
Rows 7-10: Repeat Row 6.
For bag: Make two squares following the Square Pattern from Rows 1-10 and then repeat Rows 2-10 until desired length. Sew up side and bottom seams. Trim with eyelash or fur yarn. For Straps: Ch 50 twice for double handles.
For Scarf: Follow Square Pattern from Rows 1-10 and then repeat Rows 2-10 until desired length.
In addition, February is Black History Month. Remember all of the contributions that African Americans have accomplished.
Garrett Morgan-invented the gas mask in 1912 and the traffic light in 1923.
Lois Alexander Lane- founded the Black Fashion Museum in 1979
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams- performed the first successful open heart surgery in 1893.
Toni Morrison- first African American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (1993).
I hope that you incorporate both Valentine’s Day and Black History Month into your crocheting.
