In case you’re wondering, the Stitch of the Month is a regular item on the Guild monthly meeting. However, when there are guests on the agenda and time is an issue, we will not present the stitch of the month. Our next stitch of the month is a one row repeat cluster.

Since we have two presentations at our September meeting, so please arrive by 6:15 so that we can begin the meeting then. We will also have some of socializing time to catch up with our friends and to ask stitching advice, so that when presentations are being made, we can give them our full attention.

Amy Schindler will demonstrate how to make interesting beads and buttons out of polymer clay that can be used to embellish crochet designs. She will give a short lesson on the basics of working with this material.

Amy Schindler is a New York based artist, who designs and handcrafts Jewish ritual art out of polymer clay. Amy was drawn to the medium of Judaic Ritual Art by its spiritual element, but also because each ritual object has the potential to fuse artistic and functional concerns. In Western culture, historically, there have been multiple barriers between fine art and everyday life. Art need not be held apart in museums, but can and should infuse your home with beauty. Even simple, functional pieces, like candlesticks, can bring a touch of aesthetic grace into your life.

Amy trained in charcoal and colored pencil drawing, acrylic and watercolor painting, and jewelry making. She began working in polymer clay four years ago and is continually inspired by the possibilities of this medium.

Melissa Leapman, a well-known designer and one of the founding members of our Guild, will be discussing her latest, and very well received, book Cool Crochet. She will bring samples of some of the projects in the book and teach us a stitch or two based on some of those designs. We will be able to order signed copies of this book, as well as Cozy Crochet and Crochet with Style.
