Sheep and Wool Festival

The 16th Annual Sheep & Wool Festival was held in Rhinebeck, NY on October 15-16, 2005. The day was a saving grace in itself having finally stopped raining (a miracle, after the last 7 days with rain). I had attended last year’s festival, so this was my second visit and the better of the two for sure! See, at this time last year, after only crocheting for seven months, my only purchase was a $2 counter – I was overwhelmed by all the fiber. Sad, I know. This year, after 19 months of crocheting, I emptied my wallet!! Yeah!! (though I didn’t quite mortgage the farm). The animals, the vendors, the various yarns, wools, etc. were all so charming and picturesque. And yes, I took lots of pictures! The angora bunnies and the alpacas were so irresistible. I ran into Elsye Arnow from Alapacatrax with her two prize-winning alpacas, selling her alpaca yarn. Everyone was so sweet. The most eye-catching items for me? All the needle-felted figures – Santas, pumpkins, a lady crocheting, merry-go-around horses, anything you could think of. The festival was all you could squeeze into for a day – and what a day it was. It was wonderful, to say the least, I love the Sheep & Wool Festival and I can’t wait to go again. (And a special thank you to my honey for taking me and buying me an alpaca teddy bear – I had a cold and he wanted me to feel better. I love those fiber-supporting honeys, don’t you?)
