Knit Out

The Knit-Out & Crochet was a huge success this year. The event in Union Square saw thousands enjoying free crocheting and knitting lessons, demonstrations and exhibits as well as fashion shows for adults, children and our four legged friends. The talent and skill of the garments was outstanding and drew cheers from the crowds.

The caps collected for the Save the Children Caps to the Capital campaign numbered in the thousands and the NYCCG proudly donated over 2000 caps! The other charity event at the Knit Out was the scarf contest and our won 2nd prize this year. (She’s slipping, she won 1st prize last year). The event collected scarves for the Orphan Foundation of America’s Red Scarf Project to help students who have aged out of the foster system and who have been accepted to college or trade school. . These young people are over 18 and have aged out of the foster care system and are expected to make it on their own without money, resources or family. Care packages are sent to the students three times a year, which include a (red) scarf. Last year 2,500 students received a hand knitted or crocheted scarf.

THE NYC Crochet Guild supports this cause and we will be collecting scarves through the January meeting.
