Patt Stitch: dc in st, sc in 1st lp of dc (working on left side of dc just made, insert hook in 1st loop, yo, pull up a lp the height of dc, yo and pull through 2 lps).

Foundation row of an odd number of chains

Row 1: Dc in 3rd chain from hook, sc in lp (see patt stitch), sk 1 ch, *dc in next ch, sc in lp, sk 1 ch*. Rep from * to * to the last two chs. Dc in last ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, sk 1st dc, *dc in sc, sc in lp*. Rep from * to * to the ch-3. Dc in top of ch-3. Turn.

Row 38: Ch 3, sk 1st dc, Decrease 3 sts at the beg. Rep patt stitches to last three patt stitches. Decrease 3 sts.

Row 39: Ch 3, dc in all dc, patt st in all patt sts, dc in remaining dc. Dc in top of ch-3. Turn.

Assembly

1. Connect Front Shoulders to Back Shoulders by sewing Front Row 48 to Back Row 48. (Note all the stitches on the Front Row 48 will be sewn to the back.)

2. Fold the sleeve in half, pin the top of the sleeve to the shoulder seam and stitch the sleeve.

3. Sew the sides from waist to armhole then to sleeve.

Border

Rnd 1: Join yarn in Right Front Side. 2 sc in st on the side, sc in each row st. Sc around the entire sweater.

Rnds 2- 4: Sc in each sc around. At corners, 2 sc in each sc before and after corner.

Rnd 5: (Buttonholes) On Right Front Side. Sc in next 5 to 7 sc, ch 3, skip 3 sc, *sc in next 10-15 sc (so that buttonholes are evenly spaced), ch 3, skip 3 sc*. Repeat from * to * to the neckline. Sc in remaining sc around.

Rnds 6-8: Sc in each sc around and 3 sc in ch-3 sp. Fasten off after rnd 8. Sew on buttons.
