Gauge: The sc sts should be done rather tightly. The finished ornament should be about 12 inches in diameter and about 6-7 inches in height.

Santa

• 1 oz -100% Acrylic worsted weight yarn – pink, beige or brown (skin tones)
• ½ oz -100% Acrylic worsted weight- red, black, (blue, brown, or black for eyes)

Snowman

• 1 oz - 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn- white
• ½ oz -100% acrylic worsted weight yarn – black
• 6 yards -100% acrylic worsted weight yarn- orange
• 1 oz of acrylic and mohair blend yarn- white

Santa & Snowman

• Size F or G Crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Wiggly eyes (optional)
• Stitch markers

Instructions

Head for Santa and Snowman

Leave a 12” tail of yarn (to join or sew hat to head). Ch 2

Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Mark end of this and every rnd. DO NOT JOIN.

Rows 2-3: 2 sc in each st around. (24 sts)

Row 4: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, * repeat to end of row (36 sts)

Row 5: repeat row 4, (49 sts)

Rows 6-17: (12 rows), sc in each st around. (49).

Row 18: *sc 2 sts tog, sc in next 2 sts, * repeat around (32 sts)

Row 19-20: sc in each st around.

Row 21: *sc 2 sts tog, sc in next st, * repeat around (22 sts)

Row 22-23: sc in each st around.

Note: Before completing rnds 24-29, begin to add features: eyes, nose, and mouth.

Rnd 24: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc tog. (16 sc)

Rnd 25: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * around. (12 sc)

Rnd 26: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around. (8 sc)

Rnd 27: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * once. (6sc)

Rnd 28: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next sc*. Rep. from * to * once (4 sc)

Rnd 29: Sc next 2 sc tog. (twice) (2 sc). Fasten off and close.

Hair and Beard: Use mohair blend. Leave a 3-4“ tail of yarn for sewing. Make 20 to 30.

Ch 12, 3 hdc in 2nd st from hook, 3 hdc in each ch across. Fasten off. To Attach: Sew pieces to area below the nose and on side of head. Note: Hat will go on top.

Eyes for Santa and Snowman: Plastic wriggly eyes can be purchased from craft store or yarn eyes can be made. To make eyes: Use blue, brown or black eyes to suit the face. Ch 2, sc in 2nd st from hook eight times. Leave about a 6” tail to weave. Fasten off.

Nose: Satin stitch with black yarn about 4 rows below the eyes and centered between the eyes.

Mouth: Satin Stitch with red yarn.

Note: Hat can be added either before or after stuffing. It should be sewn in place as a hanger.

Santa Cap

Rnd 1: With mohair blend, ch 40, do not twist chain. Join 1st ch to last ch with sl st to make ring. Sc in each ch around. (40 sc) Do not join at end of rnd.

Rnds 2-3: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off at end of rnd 3.

Rnd 4: Join red yarn with sl st in 1st sc, sc in same st. Sc in each sc around. Do not join.

Rnds 5-7: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 8: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * around. (30 sc)

Rnd 9: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 10: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc tog. (22 sc)

Rnd 11: Repeat row 9.

Rnd 12: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc tog. (16 sc)

Rnd 13: Repeat row 9.

Rnd 14: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * to * around. (12 sc)

Rnds 15-20: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 21: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around. (8 sc)

Rnd 22: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc tog. (5 sc)

Rnd 25: Sc next 2 sc tog. (1 sc). Fasten off and leave a 12-15” tail for tree hanger or attaching hat to head.

SNOWMAN

Instructions

Head: Use instructions for Santa’s head.

Eyes: Use instructions for Santa’s eyes.

Nose: With orange yarn, leave a tail of 6 inches, (to sew nose to face):

Ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Working in ring, place 4 sc in ring. Do not join.

Rnd 2: Sc in front lp of each sc around.

Rnd 3: Sc in front lp of each sc around.

Rnd 4: Sc in front lp of each sc around.

Rnd 5: Working in Front lp, sc next 2 sc tog. Rep once.

Rnd 6: Sc in front lp of each sc around.

Rnd 7: Sc next 2 sc tog.

Rnd 8: Sl st in sc. (1). Fasten off, leaving a 3” tail and pull through the middle. Sew base of nose to face.

Mouth: Start on rnd 9 with black yarn, bpsc in stitch under the placement of the eye; in rnd 8, bpsc one st left of last st; in rnd 7, bpsc (back post sc) in one st left of last st; bpsc in next 3 sts; in rnd 8, bpsc one st right of last st; in rnd 9, bpsc one st right of last st. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Hat: Using black yarn, leave about 15 inches of yarn to make tree hanger.

Ch 2

Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Make 7 more sc in same ch (8 sc). Mark end of this and every rnd and do not join.

Rnds 2-3: 2 sc in each sc around, (16 sts, 32 sc).

Rnds 4-12: Sc in back lp of each st (32 sc)

Rnd 13: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc*. Rep from * to * around. (24 sc)

Rnd 14: *Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 3 sc*. Rep from * to * until last 4 sc. Sc next 2 sc tog, sc in next 2 sc. (19 sc)

Rnd 15: Working in front loops only, 2 sc in each sc around. (38 sc)

Rnd 16: Sc in each sc around. (38 sc).

Rnd 17: *2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc*. Rep from * to * around. (57 sc)

Rnd 18: Sl st in each st around. Fasten off and weave in ends

Tree hanger:

Using 15” tail from hat, ch until 2” remain. Sc the end of the ch to inside of crown and fasten off.
