Materials

  • 5 balls of boucle yarn- 50 grams each (Acrylic; Wool; Nylon; Mohair Mix) - (To get striping effect, use yarn by Lang)
  • Size N Crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Size: 8 or Medium (width of sweater is 37 1/3 inches and length is 18”)
Gauge: 1st 3 rows = 2”
To increase width of sweater:
Back: Add rows after row 26 for desired width. Front: Add the same rows as back but split the number in half. Half of the rows will be added after Row 6 and the other half after Row 20.

Note: The sweater is worked from side to side.  To assemble, turn front and back so the rows are vertical.  The main st (hdc) will be laying on its side or horizontal.  This give the striping effect.

Back
Foundation row: ch 39

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from the hook. Hdc in each ch across. (37 hdc). Ch 2. Turn.

Rows 2-26: Hdc in first hdc. Hdc in each hdc to the end. (37 hdc) After last row, fasten off. Weave in ends. Set aside.

Front

Foundation Row: ch 39

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd chain from hook. Hdc in each ch across. (37 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Rows 2-6: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to the end. (37 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 7: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to the end. (37 hdc) Do not ch 2 at the end. Turn

Row 8: (Begin decrease for rounded neckline). Sl st into 1st 2 hdc. Ch 2. Hdc to end of row. (35 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 9: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to the end. (35 hdc) Do not ch 2 at end of row. Turn.

Row 10: Sl st into 1st hdc. Ch 2. Hdc in each hdc to end. (34 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 11: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to end (34 hdc) Do not ch 2 at end of row. Turn.

Row 12: Sl st into 1st hdc. Ch 2. Hdc in each hdc to end. (33 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Rows 13-15: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to end (33 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 16: (Begin increase for rounded neckline). Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to last hdc. 2 hdc in last hdc. (34 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 17: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to the end. (34 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 18: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to end. 2 hdc in last hdc. (35 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 19: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to end. (35 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Row 20: 2 hdc in 1st hdc. Hdc each hdc to last hdc. 2 hdc in the last hdc. (37 hdc) Ch 2. Turn.

Rows 21-26: Hdc in 1st hdc and each hdc to the end. (37 hdc) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assemble back and front: Work on wrong side.

Place both the front and back so that rows 1-26 are on top and bottom. Place the rounded neckline of the front piece on top, and rows 1 & 26 on the sides. For shoulder seams, using needle to whip stitch rows 1-7 and rows 20-26 together.

Armhole: Work on wrong side. Armholes measure 7” from the shoulder seams on both the front and back. Place markers on both pieces. Do this on the right and left sides.

Cap Sleeve:

Row 1: To form the sleeve: Join yarn with sl st at first marker. Ch 2, place 28 hdc evenly spaced around the armhole from marker to marker. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc across. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Side Seams: Sew from either Row 1 or 26 of the front and back to Row 2 of Cap Sleeves. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Edgings (Working on RS)

Cap sleeves: Work around the edge of each sleeve. Join yarn at seam. *Sl st in 1st 5 hdc. Sl st next 2 hdc together*. Rep from * to* to end. (24 sl st)

Neckline: Join yarn at shoulder seam on the right with a sl st. Ch 1. Evenly place 24 sc around the neckline. Sl st in ch 1. Fasten off.

Bottom of sweater:

Rnd 1: Join yarn with sl st on bottom of sweater starting on back side. Ch 1. Evenly work 52 sc around the edge of the sweater. Sl st in ch 1 sp.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, *sc in next 11 sc, sc next 2 sc together*. Rep from * to* around. Sl st in ch 1. Fasten off. Weave in ends to finish.
